What does this indicator measure?

This indicator is a measure of research and development expenditures from universities in the Syracuse, Buffalo, and Rochester regions.  Expenditures are measures in millions of dollars and presented from 2005 to 2009.

Additionally, a breakdown of the 2009 expenditures by college/university and science field is presented.
