What does this indicator measure?

This indicator is a measure of the total Gross Domestic Product (GDP)  produced in several, similar upstate Metropolitan Statistical Areas in 2011.  GDP is the market value of all officially recognized final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time.  MSA’s are a geographic unit used by the census to capture economic “systems”.  They usually include one county with an urban core/city and some adjoining counties that conduct a lot of commerce with each other.
