What does this indicator measure?
This indicator is a measure of the share of all clean jobs that are “green collar” jobs in several similar, Upstate MSA’s.
The “clean” or “green” economy is an important element of America’s energy economy. The Syracuse metropolitan area has a total of 9,648 clean jobs, representing 3% of total jobs in the area. Between 2003 and 2010 Syracuse added 1,376 clean jobs.
Occupations paying mid-level wages are referred to as “green collar” occupations, and include jobs in the following categories: production, transportation, installation, construction, office administration and support, protective services, and social services. The green collar designation is specific to the clean economy; these occupations would otherwise be referred to as “blue collar”.
