What does this indicator measure?

This indicator measures the rate of recycling as the amount of recycled waste compared to the total solid waste. Historically, Onondaga County has been far ahead of both state and national rates according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) has provided the area with one of the best waste recovery programs available. Through the recovery of plastics, metals, glass, paper and other recyclable material, the community is able to preserve precious resources as well as economizing on finding new materials. Avid recycling suggests higher environmental consciousness.
